Sound check

Every great adventure has a soundtrack and you might be surprised to learn that ours is of the 90’s grunge variety…

One of my kids’ favorite things about riding in a Land Rover with my husband is the volume. If you’ve met East Senior, you will not be surprised at all to learn that he prefers to keep sound at the max setting; especially if he has borrowed my car and wants to scare the living sh*t out of me when I turn the ignition key the next morning.

I’m the one who usually turns the volume down only to receive looks of mild disappointment from the rest of my clan, but this all changed over Memorial Day weekend at the BottleRock Festival in Napa, California when I became the instigator for TURNING UP THE VOLUME on our life’s soundtrack. Because what’s a family roadtrip without a little spontaneity?

So yes, we did a thing that weekend. In addition to experiencing an incredible three days of music with friends who felt like family at the end of it all, we decided to take a piece of the festival home with us in the form of a Gibson guitar signed by Green Day.

My family couldn’t believe it when I said we should go for it. Was it the fact that the auction proceeds went to Gibson Gives to help provide a happy soundtrack for those who need it? Yes. Was it the fact that the boys want to learn how to play the guitar together using an instrument signed by their favorite band? Also yes.

As we head into Summer, I love the idea of kicking it off with a charitable gift and a chance to help our family flex their adventure muscles in a new way.

Blame it on the festival atmosphere, the champagne buzz as we entered the BV booth, the Defender brand activation experience where we wove journey bracelets and keychains together. Blame it on the heady mix of all of the above, but something tells me I better prepare my ears for some rather loud jam sessions alongside the Rovers in our garage!
